A creditor is open to the public for all of its business functions Monday through Friday only. It receives a complete application on Friday, April 17, 2026. There are no holidays in the following week. What is the latest day the Loan Estimate can be delivered or placed in the mail?
The initial Loan Estimate deadline uses the general business-day definition: days the creditor's offices are open for substantially all business functions (12 CFR 1026.2(a)(6)). This creditor is closed on weekends, so Saturday and Sunday do not count. Monday is day 1, Tuesday day 2, Wednesday day 3, so the Loan Estimate must go out by Wednesday (12 CFR 1026.19(e)(1)(iii)(A)). Tuesday would be right only if Saturday counted, which it does not for a creditor closed that day. Source: 12 CFR 1026.19(e)(1)(iii)(A); 12 CFR 1026.2(a)(6) (as at 11 Oct 2026).
Applying the specific definition (all days but Sundays and holidays) to the initial Loan Estimate, which uses the creditor's own open days.
