NMLS Practice Test PDFs and Exam Dumps: What Is Real
Searches for an "NMLS practice test PDF" or "NMLS exam questions and answers PDF" turn up two kinds of file: original practice questions, and "exam dumps" that claim to be the real test. The second kind is the problem. Here is what NMLS actually publishes, why dumps are a risk, and what to use instead.
What NMLS publishes for free

NMLS does not publish past tests or a question bank. Each candidate gets a different form of the test, assembled from a confidential item pool (Linear on the Fly Testing, Testing Handbook 9.0).
Why exam dump PDFs are a risk
- The test is confidential. In the NMLS Candidate Agreement, every test taker agrees not to share the questions or answer choices, by any means. A file of real questions can only come from someone who broke that agreement.
- The penalties fall on you too. NMLS says a candidate whose conduct jeopardizes test security may have the score invalidated, be denied future access to the test and face civil or criminal liability, and state regulators may act on the license application (NMLS Candidate Agreement and Rules of Conduct).
- The answers are often wrong or out of date. Recalled questions come without sources. Figures such as the HOEPA thresholds, the QM points-and-fees limits and the conforming loan limits change every year, and a file from 2022 teaches 2022 numbers.

Does NMLS publish past exams?
No. NMLS publishes the Content Outline, the Testing Handbook and 10 sample questions in Appendix B of the handbook. Test content is confidential.
Are NMLS exam dumps legal to use?
Real test questions can only come from a breach of the NMLS Candidate Agreement. NMLS says conduct that jeopardizes test security can lead to an invalidated score, a ban from the test and action by state regulators.
